SAINT BRIGID

This piece was made for the parish church of Saint Anne and Saint Brigid in Ancoats, Manchester. This part of Manchester was once it's industrial heart but now much has been demolished and rebuilt. The old churches of the parish are shown at the bottom of the panel, while the Saint holds the plainer but warmer new building in her arm. Between the old churches is Saint Brigid's cross, which according to the old story, she wove out of reeds in order to perform an impromptu conversion.
